Among the\nat-risk groups in the labour market are, among others, young people up to the\nage of 29 who have left school. Young people who are unemployed after leaving\nschool have nowhere to gain work habits, and over time they also lose the\nknowledge, skills and habits they have acquired. If youth unemployment is of a\nlong-term nature, then it is a societal risk. One solution to prevent youth\nunemployment is to motivate young people to become entrepreneurs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Statistical data\nshow that the number of young people under the age of 29 is decreasing in\nSlovakia. Similar trends are also observed in the other V4 countries, despite\nfluctuating year-on-year gains or losses. However, the share of young people in\nthe total population of Slovakia is also decreasing. Despite this, youth\nunemployment in Slovakia is higher than the average for European Union\ncountries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entrepreneurship\nas one of the forms of self-fulfilment is chosen by young people up to\n29 years of age all over Slovakia. The largest share of young entrepreneurs\n– natural persons in the total number of entrepreneurs in individual regions is\nin the Nitra, Pre\u0161ov and \u017dilina Regions. Looking at the share of young\nentrepreneurs in the total number of young people in the region, the largest\nnumber of entrepreneurs under 29 years of age is in the Bratislava, \u017dilina and\nNitra Regions. Young people are most active in construction, business services\nand industry, and least active in agriculture and other services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the purpose\nof the analysis, the SBA conducted a survey among young people in secondary and\nhigher education in all regions of Slovakia. The survey found that young people\nare not prone to entrepreneurship. Often they do not even have entrepreneurial\nexperience, which can have a negative impact on increasing business risk. Both\nsecondary school and university students are well informed about\nentrepreneurship, with school and the media, especially the internet, being\ntheir primary sources of information. At the same time, however, respondents\nexpressed an interest in entrepreneurial stories. Based on the only confirmed\nhypothesis, it was found that those pupils\/students who are most interested in\nentrepreneurial stories are those who are motivated by career growth at work.\nThat is why one of the recommendations is for schools and media to make\nentrepreneurial stories accessible to today’s school pupils and students via\nthe internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Young people\nwith entrepreneurial potential are particularly interested in venture capital\nand new industries. Young entrepreneurs see entrepreneurship as a path to\nself-fulfilment. The respondents\u2019 view that they would be interested in getting\na job and gaining experience first before starting their own business seems\ninteresting. In addition to self-fulfilment, the reason for entrepreneurship is\nto fulfil a dream or business idea. Young people can imagine their business\nmainly in commerce or other services and mostly in the region where they live.\nThe entrepreneur is perceived by today’s young people as a person who works\nhard to make it in the fierce competition and to make his\/her dreams come true.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The qualitative\nresearch, which was conducted by the SBA in the form of roundtable discussions,\ndrew conclusions in 4 areas. The most important prerequisites for starting a business<\/strong> include self-fulfilment, a\ndesire for adventure, curiosity, a desire to excel, to do exceedingly well,\nperseverance, and a passion for the business. Family is important to any young\nstart-up entrepreneur. On the one hand, as a stimulating factor (suitable\npro-entrepreneurial family environment or acquired entrepreneurial experience\nwith family support). On the other hand, a strong desire for entrepreneurship\nin young people can work in spite of an unfavourable family background. Often\nyoung people decide to run a business alongside their job. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nstart of business <\/strong>was considered\nby the roundtable discussants to be a critical period. Young people – start-up\nentrepreneurs were mainly influenced by the pressure and fear of the future, as\nwell as the fact that they could not predict the outcome of the business.\nTherefore, according to young existing entrepreneurs, it is important to work\nhard and honestly from the beginning of the business, which conveys\nsatisfaction to consumers and brings general benefit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n A third\nimportant factor influencing the entrepreneurial activity of young people is the education system and the\npro-entrepreneurial mentality.<\/strong> Currently, entrepreneurship as a separate\nsubject is not implemented at schools, but pupils and students can gain\nentrepreneurial experience through a mock company (currently of little\ninterest), a fictitious company, or at university in the subject\nEntrepreneurship of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. Although pupils and\nstudents are interested in entrepreneurial stories, the interest in including\nthem in the classroom is low from the point of view of educators. The main\nreason for this is that discussions with entrepreneurs take away from the\nteachers’ time, which they had allocated in accordance with the curricula.\nThere appears to be more scope for entrepreneur-related activities at private\nschools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Support\nand assistance<\/strong> to young start-up entrepreneurs is\nmainly offered by the Young Entrepreneurs Association, which also has in its\nportfolio the possibility to mediate the participation of young entrepreneurs\nin international associations and international cooperation. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Among the at-risk groups in the labour market are, among others, young people up to the age of 29 who have left school.
